ALLIANCE: Los Angeles’ Student Empowerment Program Visits NASCAR and FOX Sports to Learn About Future Careers

High school students from the ALLIANCE: Los Angeles’ Student Empowerment Program visited the Coliseum ahead of NASCAR’s first Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum. The students toured the racetrack, visited the FOX Sports broadcast compound, and participated in a NASCAR sports career panel. The 27 students and seven chaperones were from Boss Program, ICEF View Park Preparatory Charter High School, and Project Blue.

Athlete on Athlete

In the #AthleteOnAthlete series, we hold court with team members from #TheAllianceLA about the unique challenges professional athletes experience. Our first episode features Nneka Ogwumike of the Los Angeles Sparks and Blake Bolden of the Los Angeles Kings.

Off the Bench

The Alliance presents Off the Bench, which follows two South LA student-athletes as they return to school sports. This series highlights Kimorri and Jeremiah as they return to campus for rugby practice after a prolonged break due to the pandemic. They are students at one of the Alliance’s two Student Empowerment Program partner high schools.

The Women Who Lifted Me Up series, a continuation of #Women’sHistoryMonth, recognizes women who positively impacted members from the ALLIANCE: Los Angeles’ 11 teams. This series highlights how coaches, mentors, mothers, wives, and friends have helped Alliance members achieve their goals.

Black Excellence in Sport and Action Panel

The ALLIANCE: Los Angeles hosted the Black Excellence in Sport and Action panel, a discussion between professional athletes about social justice topics. Over 100 student athletes and future leaders participated in the virtual panel from over 23 middle schools and high schools in the greater Los Angeles area. Kiesha Nix, Executive Director of Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation moderated the panel discussion with professional athletes on how they excel in sport and drive social change. Guests included Blake Bolden of the LA Kings, Jordan Fuller of the LA Rams, and Rushia Brown of the LA Sparks. The event highlighted UCLA Gymnast Nia Dennis and her “Black Excellence” floor routine.

This #BlackHistoryMonth, we celebrate staff from the 11 The ALLIANCE: Los Angeles teams who have made a mark behind the scenes and in the workplace with the #BlackExcellenceAtWork series. This series shows The Alliance’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, highlights the unique opportunities in sports that lay beyond the playing field, and promotes youth sports as a vital component to success. The #BlackExcellenceAtWork series videos cover how these stellar staff members arrived at their current position and how youth sports impacted their life in terms of leadership, teamwork, and resilience.

The 11 teams of The ALLIANCE: Los Angeles celebrate National Mentoring Month in January. The Alliance teams aim to inspire and equip children across the Los Angeles community with the tools they need to succeed. This mentoring month, we recognize that mentors can come from anywhere and their positive impact is immeasurable.

Moments Matter: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The 11 teams of The ALLIANCE: Los Angeles honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King once said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” To show our continued support for important social justice issues, The ALLIANCE: Los Angeles created a video that included footage from recent Black Lives Matter marches, supportive content from Alliance players and teams, individual messages, and powerful images of Dr. King to highlight moments that matter. This year, professional athletes and teams across The ALLIANCE: Los Angeles took an active role in addressing social justice issues and promoting social change.

Alliance Teen Town Hall: Gwen Berry and Johnathan Franklin

The ALLIANCE: Los Angeles held its virtual Town Hall kickoff event with student athletes from View Park High School and LA Promise Charter High School. Watch Gwen Berry and Johnathan Franklin share their stories, as well as lessons learned through their involvement in sports and working in communities.
